[So Kurt intially wakes up near the southern lake - in an immediate panic at the lack of clothes, even his uniform, or his image inducer. He only sees the book nearby. Curiously, he winds up peering into it and musing into it, unaware that it's recording this snippet.]

Doesn't look at all like the bayou... Where did they go? [He looks down into the book.] And where did this book come from? My name's on it. A gift from the Professor? Something about this book seems really weird... But I should try to find the others first.

[And so... this blue, fuzz demon will be teleporting around in acrid puffs of smoke, trying to stick to treetops and following the river towards the village. Every now and then, he stops just to take another look at the book. There's got to be something he's missing. And are those voices he hears from this weird book?

And as he arrives at the village, he may wind up accidentally teleporting into one of several houses. Something just seems a little off about his power here, you know? Hope this blue demon-looking guy doesn't catch you off-guard, with the dramatic smoke puffs that follow him. He could even wind up in the item or clothing shop before meeting anyone he knows.]

Anyway, sorry. [ She leans back against the counter, continuing to watch him somewhat speculatively. ] That's not a name I know. Anyone else?

[ Pulls her mouth to one side. ] You don't have to be smart with me. I can stop trying to help, you know.

[ Oh. One of those names rings a bell, and she straightens up. ] Logan? I know him. [ ... her mouth twitches in a smile at the thought of the grump. ] I might be able to help you find him, but only through the journals. I don't know where he lives.

[He moans.] Sorry, sorry, just testing for a sense of humor.

Oh, you know Logan? [That might be the last person he expected someone to know, but he did tend to travel around a lot.] If he's somewhere in this area, I bet he'll find me first. He's kinda really good at this kind of thing.

[ Rolls her eyes at his comment. She has a sense of humor, just not necessarily when someone teleports into her house and scares the bejesus out of her. ]

Yeah. I.... couldn't exactly say he's a friend. Up till now I honestly didn't think he had any. [ Said with a considering sort of look. ] You have your journal on you? You could find him and the rest of your friends a lot quicker using that, I guarantee you.

It's not like we have friendship bracelets or anything, but he looks out for us. And yeah - I have this weird book on me. [He holds it up.] I can find them with this? I tried looking in it earlier, and the voice I heard wasn't exactly someone I'd call a friend.

Yeah, believe it or not. Here. [ She pulls out her own journal and opens it, moving to stand beside him so he can see. ] I don't know how long you spent looking, but it's not exactly what it seems at first glance. It's -- it's like a computer. A tablet, if you have those. If you don't... a PDA, I guess? Iiii just realized I have no idea when you're from. It's not that important. [ She makes a sort of vague gesture and moves on. ] Anyway, you can access more than one person through this. Way more than one person. Every person in the village has a journal, and if you know how, you can contact them personally.

I don't think you mean a stone tablet, so I'm going to have to go with computer or DNA. [He looks over at hers while flipping through his own.] Wow, this does seem real nifty. Pretty handy that we all get a book like this. Each one must cost a fortune!

Nnnnnope. You have computers but not tablets? You might just be a decade or two behind, then. [ With her journal open, she flips to the guide. ] This is useful. When you get the time, I seriously suggest going through it. [ He gets a sideways look for the cost comment. ] If they do, we don't know about it. The Malnosso don't really spare any expense for us.

Last I checked it, was 2003. Are you telling me you're from the future? [But he takes a brief glance at the Guide.] So I have some reading homework now. ...But thanks for showing me.

Last I checked, it was 2012. So, yeah. [ She smiles. ] You'll find that happening a lot here. It's actually pretty rare for one person's respective timeline to match up with another's, from what I've seen. Anyway, take your time with the guide. It's a lot to take in, but most people you run into will be happy to just tell you the basics.

2012. And the world's still kicking? Man, this is really weird. But I can get out of your hair soon, if you'd like. My name's Kurt, by the way.

I'm sort of wondering why that's such a surprise for you. [ Looking at him quizzically. ] Anyway, it's fine. I'm Jane. Nice meeting you, even if you scared the crap out of me.

Hey, uh... end of the world. Never know when it'd come, right? [He doesn't want to get into the real reasons. Apocalypse could have postponed some kind of attack on the world for years; no need to worry her about something she could have been blissfully unaware of.] But it's nice to meet you, too. I'll be more careful about my teleporting, I swear!

Oh my god. Are you talking about the Mayan Apocalypse thing? [ It's all that comes to mind. ] Annnnyway, that's good to hear. Just, you know. [ She scrunches her face. ] Tighter control next time.

[He winces briefly, until he realizes what she's talking about.]

No, not exactly. Something of a... different kind, I guess. [But he shakes his head.] But that doesn't matter. I promise I'll be a lot better with my teleporting in the future, Jane! And, uh... looking less like a fuzzy weirdo.

.... okay. [ She lets it go, though with some visible incredulity. Her curiosity is piqued, though she'll let him squeak away for now with whatever secret he's got. But the fuzzy weirdo comment makes her choke on a laugh. ]

You know, um -- you're definitely more blue than most people I meet? But I've met stranger, so... no big.

Well it looks like my dreams of winning the prize for strangest in this place have been dashed so soon. But... I should go to find my friends, no?

Yeah. Go ahead. [ She continues to smile, obviously at her ease now that it's painfully obvious Kurt is a decent guy, if not entirely in control of his powers. ] Nice meeting you, Kurt. Sorta.
